H. {Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} HV Industrial Rubber Products Co. Ltd. On receipt of your memo of 14/2, I wrote and asked Mr. Cooper for information on the question of tire sizes. I have today received his reply and attach same: also two leaflets, which he sent. Having never myself had any experience of straight-sided covers, I fear these dimensions in inches do not convey much to me. As regards the last paragraph of your memo, I am afraid I am not in a position to express any opinion as to what are Mr. Cooper's hopes. The points I had in view in bringing the matter to your notice were:- (1). If results anticipated proved correct, the saving in the tire bill would be so immense, that this ought to have a very favorable effect on the sale of R.R. cars. (2). A Guarantee extended to the owners of Rolls-Royce cars, but denied to rivals, sounded advantageous. (3). I mentioned to Mr. Cooper the unattractiveness to myself of a foreign make, but remembered that we push Michelin's, who are a rotten firm with whom to deal. (4). Everyone seems agreed that Dunlop's are now rotten - and incidentally the firm is now "broke", is-it not? (5). I had always gathered ( perhaps erroneously ) that R.R. liked to buy the cheapest tire - or anyway one giving them the best commission. The above, combined with a respect for any firm, who cooperated in time of National Emergency, instead of opposing schemes ( dilution ) devised in the Country's interest, induced me to bring the matter to your notice, but I know nothing of the firm, as such, beyond this.
