Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. SMTH September 19th.1935. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr.Llewellyn-Smith Experimental Department Confirming the Writer's visit to you at Derby and the demonstration of the Subjective/Objective Sound Meter, we shall be glad to give you a further demonstration of this instrument when we have our new batch of production models available. We will write you as soon as this is possible, and will arrange for our engineers to give you full instruction in the use of the instrument. We enclose a leaflet describing some of the work done by the Acoustic Consulting Department, which we also discussed with you and which we trust you will find of interest. We also include a Preprint of a paper presented at the Summer Meeting of the S.A.E. this year by a member of the Texas Oil Company and of Electrical Research Products, the Company which carries out in the United States the same work and uses the same instruments as ourselves. We shall be very much obliged if you will be so good as to return this immediately you have read it. We hope it will be of interest as it does describe a certain amount of the work done in determining the "knock" effects under varying conditions, although, as you will notice, it admits that it is only a small part of the research to be carried out on this subject. Any further details of the work which we do and about which you might require information we shall be very glad to supply. Yours faithfully, WESTERN ELECTRIC COMPANY LIMITED. Cyril Harris.
