K/W. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} 861 PRIVATE. PK/KC/DB{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}/23.8.38. re: Chassis No. B.103.GP. Guy Knowles Esq. Your memo to Pk. owing to his absence on annual leave, has been passed to the writer for reply. You will have seen Owner's Complaint Report No. 104 from which you will note that not only have the cylinder bores worn badly, but the car was suffering from main bearing sinkage. These two characteristics alone clearly define to me that this is a case of a real hard driver. Before you write to him, I would point out that the case is now a "Complaint Case", H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} having written to him under cover of his H12/H18.8.38. We at K.{Mr Kilner} have not told him that the cylinder block has been re-bored, but he has been told that we are renewing the piston and scraper rings and are checking the main bearings for oil leakage in order to cure his justifiable complaint of heavy oil consumption. In actual fact, we are carrying out the work as detailed in the K.{Mr Kilner} report. We have not asked him to run on special oil; he is using Price's "CW" Viscosity 50, as laid down in Depot Sheet HD.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} 387. The question as to who pays for the labour has been placed before the administration for their decision, a recommendation having been made by Pk. that, in view of the mileage, the work should be chargeable to Company's Policy. Before writing to him, perhaps it would be better to wait until - 1. C. has decided to accept Pk's recommendation regarding the charges to be made. 2. The complaint case is closed. PK/KC. | ||
