X.4079 - REDMANOL ENCASED COILS.

Reference your R2/M29.5.24, we have three encased coils of the tall type running on experimental ca. These only differ from the present standard stabalite encased coils in the casing. So far we have had no suggestion of any trouble with these taller type coils in the redmanol cases, and the experiments to date have shown that they will stand as much additional external gap without missing fire, under unfavourable conditions, as the standard stabalite, and somewhat more than the old shorter coils of the stabalite encased type.

We assume it is your wish that we should (as we are and have been doing) continue to experiment on these lines. It is not intended that any suggestion of standard-isation could be considered until much proof that such coils will be O.K.,has accumulated, as it is agreed that the fault is elusive and dangerous.

One of the tests we shall be making on these new coils,in comparison with the present standard, will be a careful comparison of the operation under bench conditions of the two coils artificially heated side by side in a low temperature furnace.

Reference your R1/M29.5.24 addressed to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, we are asking for three more of these coils to be made up for experiment and it is our intention to send you one of
