Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.24/KW. 27th March, 1936. Messrs. Cam Gears Ltd., Biscot Road Works, Luton, Beds. For the attention of Mr. Pentony. Dear Sirs, We are returning to you the Bishop steering which you supplied to us about 2 years ago. This steering has been on our destruction bumper chassis for hundreds of hours and has proved that the design is sufficiently strong. Upon examination we find that considerable running must have been done after all the oil had leaked out of the box. We understand from our Mr. Walker that you are contemplating fitting this steering on to one of our cars. This we consider to be very unwise, as our bumper test is very severe, and although no failure has yet occurred, the failure may be very near. We have a rule here that no part of a car that has run at all on a bumper chassis can be fitted to chassis for a road test, even of a temporary nature. We hope you will gain some knowledge from the testing that this steering has had. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
