Cleaning lapping paste from spring drives and plates as a precautionary measure.

-2- Furthermore, with regard to point (a), it is possible that some d eposit which you may have thought was scale on the spring plate is really lapping paste, as we have now found in lapping the plate which is rivetted to the spring plate, the lapping paste has got between the two plates. Since that time however, we have made special arrangements to wax the joints between the plates and also thoroughly clean after lapping. As this may work out on the spring drives which are already fitted to engines, we shall be glad if Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} will arrange to let us have all the spring drives back, so that we may thoroughly clean them.
