To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH. c. to Jnr.{Charles L. Jenner} Mytt 1030 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH.4/SW.16.1.41. 700 "Halford" Self Adjusting Tappet adapted to the 4 cyl BM.40. The scheme above, has been prepared at the request of Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} with a view to some experimental work being carried out to improve the slow running of this engine. The oil feed is from the low pressure system and has a constant pressure by means of a groove in each rocker bush. The pipe has at its uppermost connection a non-return valve similar to that used on the Ph.lll. petrol drain pipes, in order to prevent the oil draining away from the tappets when the engine is standing. The scheme has been detailed for record purpose, as most of the details existed in the form of Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} experimental drawings, and have only been adapted to the above engine. ------------------------- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH.
