To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Y7772. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/MJ.21.3.30. LEFT-HAND CHASSIS SUBFRAME. Replying to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}4/E20.3.30. We have discussed this matter with OY. and Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}, and OY. is already convinced of the value of the subframe mounting. We have, however, got to accept that as the whole of the bodies will be mounted in the R.R. factory, their position is rather different to ours. In our case we have to provide a universal subframe which can be applied for all types of bodies and used by coachbuilders having different methods of construction. In their case, having the whole thing under their control, they can probably build into the body the features of the subframe and do it with less weight, complication, and cost. OY. has accepted that they will use our standard body mounting brackets on the chassis and they will use the rubber packings that we provide. If they do that and they construct their bodies so that they can be satisfactorily mounted in the same way as we do with the subframe, then there is little else we can ask them to do. OY [strikethrough]Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}[/strikethrough] and EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} propose to discuss this with you when they see you on Tuesday next. The chief point is that there does not appear any necessity for us to make any tests because OY. is convinced of the advantage of the subframe. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
