Copy to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} EHC. Martindale Phantom III. Front Brakes. The pull-off stop for the front brakes on Phantom III is on the intermediate lever on the inside of the frame at the front horn. It is found that, due to the geometry of the front brakes and the wishbone levers, the brakes are pulled on when the car is jacked up and the wheels are in the position of full rebound. This condition would be a nuisance in as much as the car is jacked up and the wheels require to be revolved for the purposes of washing. On LeC 4739 herewith, we show our recommendations for overcoming this trouble. A stop is provided on the front brake actuating lever. We show an excrescence on the lever which calls for a modification to the die. For purposes of adjustment the stop on the lever is filed, but for experimental purposes the sheet metal bracket may be shortened and existing levers may be used. On full rebound with this stop the brake linkage will pull at the servo levers which are not a definite stop. It will be necessary to remove the bosses on the carrier levers on the side of the frame which form the present stop, but when erecting the brake linkage on the chassis we suggest that a provisional stop be provided at this point, so as to ensure that these levers and the other levers in the system are placed in their required angular positions. This will prevent errors in the leverage, and also prevent the carrier levers on the side of the frame from being placed in a wrong angular position. EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Att: LeC 4739. | ||
