CHILDS 400b To. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} CHATEAUROUX. I/.19.10.38. 8.B.V. - BENTLEY III. We have received the following communications for which we thank you. 1). Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}I/JH.15.10.38. We will leave the battery terminals undisturbed as requested in order to get a value for the anti-corrosive washers. 2). Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}I/N.13.10.38. We will endeavour to check the curve on chart No I by means of our Tapley meter. 3). Sr/Go.6/AD.13.10.38. Confirming that the services of J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Behman will be available. He travelled down to Chateauroux with me in the car. 4). Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}I/R.17.10.38, enclosing Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}I/KW.10.10.38. We trust that the difficulty experienced by Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} in getting to 4,500 rpm. eventually persuaded him to stop trying, as we know the valve bounce speed to be 4,200 rpm. and the gain in performance after 4,000 rpm. nil. The fact that he was travelling 10 m.p.h. faster than he imagined is in itself a good testimony to the car's general characteristics and should be brought to his notice. WYMAN We have cut the carpets away round the pedals so that the rubber stops can come against the gap plate without obstruction. We trust that this will also receive attention on experimental and production Wraiths and if necessary, the cups you suggested, produced. We examined the Delco governor which appeared to be in order. The carburetter levels were set very low. We have corrected this, but the flat spot persists. With the ignition set to give violent detonation on low grade fuel, the detonation completely stops at the flat spot and then comes in again. CHILDS By RO{C. C. Rose - Export Manager} The speedometer mileage under-estimates in the ratio of 8 to 9. We should like a correct speedometer if this can be arranged. The failure of the headlamp bulbs was followed by the centre lamp bulb. It was impossible to obtain bulbs to suit either lamps in any of the garages at Orleans where the trouble occurred. Will you please send out a supply of spare bulbs. | ||
