Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}

BY9-P27.7.22.

I am handing you herewith a letter I have received from Mr Bond, Service Manager for the Dunlop Company, confirming his conversation with us at Derby, and urging us to make a recommendation at an early date in favor of abandoning the use of security bolts.

After more fully considering the matter I am more convinced than ever that the views put forward are correct, and that in forcing the use of security bolts upon our customers we are actually pushing them into trouble when cord tyres are used, and therefore, in view of this I take it you will take the earliest opportunity to run the test you propose to base your recommendations upon, so that the whole issue can be raised in the near future and finally settled.

There is no doubt at all, in my opinion, but that the Dunlop Co, who are responsible for whatever happens to the tyres, should have the last word in stating how the tyres should be run, it being distinctly a case of "the man who pays the piper ought to call the tune"
