GOODRICH TYRES. X 2679

A set of [strikethrough] Goodrich tyres received for test purposes have been run on our cars under conditions exactly comparable with those under which all other makes of cars [handwritten correction: tyres] are tested. It is usual to discard tyres when they have worn down to such an extent that their non-skid qualities have depreciated sufficiently to make driving in wet weather uncomfortable.
The Goodrich tyres gave comfortable riding and were quiet if compared with the Dunlop triple stud tyre, but were not nearly as quiet as the Dunlop silent tread tyre.
Apart from the set of tyres received from the Goodrich factory we have used four tyres of the same type which were sent up from Lillie Hall - they had been used, but very little, probably only for a silence test.
The table attached gives the mileage record obtained from these tyres. It should be noted that the two tyres which gave the largest mileage were run until the canvas was shewing, the remainder were discarded when the tread had worn smooth.
The average mileage of 20 Dunlop triple stud tread tyres is 7139. We have not as yet used a sufficient quantity of Dunlop silent tread type to give an average mileage figure
From the table attached we get an average of 5739 miles for the five tyres from the Goodrich factory. The remaining four gave an average of 2779 miles excluding the small mileage run before we received them. The average figure for the 9 tyres is 4491 miles.
