X8950 PN{Mr Northey}3/DN13.5.26. TO Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM PN{Mr Northey} c. to BJ, G, GWB " " Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}, LP{Mr Lappin}, Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} As arranged with you on the 'phone today, I propose to drive our ex Riviera White Open Touring Phantom Chassis No. 7-LC, to Derby on Monday morning, arriving at the Midland Hotel before luncheon, with a view to this car receiving certain attention in respect of engine thud, excess of vibration when picking up, noisy gearbox &c. This matter I can discuss on my arrival. The primary object of my visit is with a view to being able to establish with you definitely the amount of improvement (which you so far have stated at being 50%) likely to be counted upon in connection with our early Phantom steering, by the modification of the springs' strength in the cross steering tubes. You will be good enough to have a car ready which we can first test without the modified springs and subsequently with the altered springs. BJ desires that this car, or one similar, shall be driven back by me from Derby, in order that he can also at once form an opinion as to the amount of improvement to be gained in this way. The matter, as you know, is very urgent because something definite has to be done in respect of a large number of Chassis waiting for exportation, in which the steering is of the original Phantom type.
