ORIGINAL To R.{Sir Henry Royce} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Mr. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to Mr. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to RF. Lr.{Mr Ellor} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}8/MJ.8.2.33. X3859 KESTREL CONNECTING RODS. We have had to stop running the engine with articulated rods and lead bronze bearings with grooves in the main bearings because we had a valve burn. We had completed about five hours running at 900 HP. The bearings are perfectly alright, and the tests will be continued when we have replaced the valve. We are practically certain the cause of the failure is insufficient clearance in the guide. This will be confirmed by further running with increased clearance. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
