R.R. 235A (500 T) (S.D. 408. 26-4-17.) Bm. 2/156/13. E6/GS/4.19. To EH. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ. c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to EFC. X.3530 - RE 40/50 H.P. CHASSIS MAGNETO DRIVE AND REAR COUPLING BETWEEN ENGINE AND GEAR BOX. Referring to your memo EH4/LG4.4.19., would you kindly note that Mr. Royce approves of trying some other form of joint as a substitute for the block type at present used for driving the magneto. The recommendation, however, to use a serrated joint is not considered satisfactory, as it will wear slack as does the present type, owing to the dust which comes through the radiator. Mr. Royce considers that we should try leather or fabric disc couplings, and to enable the magneto to be taken down easily the driving shaft should be split in the middle of its length by a flanged coupling easily demountable. A scheme should therefore be prepared in Derby, to carry out these suggestions, and submitted to Mr. Royce. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
