Inspection finding grease dissolving in oil between seals and proposing alternative solutions.

-2- On inspection however, it was observed that the grease had again dissolved in the oil and had escaped from between the seals towards the side from which the oil was fed. There was no leakage of grease or oil past the other seal. Therefore this scheme is not practicable unless the space between the seals is filled with a lubricating medium which is not so readily soluble in oil. Graphite will be tried, but further enquiries are being made for other mediums. Also a trial is being made of the effect of reversing the seal nearest to the oil supply, on which comment will be issued later. ------------ HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/B1.
