VERY SECRET.

Dear Fuller,

I have been talking with Mr.Nadin con-cerning the problem of making part or the whole of the chassis to be sold in America at Derby.

On a broad basis the conclusions we arrived at are as follows:-

A number of modifications are being tested now which may (and probably will) be intro-duced on to our present standard chassis during the next 6 or 8 months.

These modifications are in some cases fairly considerable and, when they have proved satis-factory here, you will have to introduce them in America with the necessary expense of jigs, tools, etc., or we should have to make them for you here so far as it is possible, bearing in mind that your chassis is left-handed.

As your chassis is left-handed, it is quite certain that it will be impossible for Springfield to be producing chassis which are as up-to-date as the Derby chassis, because we are never sure until the finish of our 10,000 miles test and all our other tests that the designs will remain without further modifications.

It would lead to very considerable complications if we continually sent drawings to you of all parts with which we are experimenting and which may or may not be either standardised or may be altered in design. Also if we attempted to send you
