35 FX GEARBOX 2nd.MOTION SHAFT.

G.54680 Clamping Washer - Front End of Shaft.

Condition after 6,750 Miles Running.

The above washer is distorted .006, and worn .012 on the face adjacent to the Hoff. M.S.12 Ball Brg. and is due to the inner race revolving against the washer.

The width of the clamping area between washer and inner race is .100, and this area is not supported from the back by the lockwasher or nut.

Suggest a stiffer clamping washer be used, outside dia. increased from 1.650 to 1.750 and thickness increased from .100 to .150, also the outside dia. of lockwasher can be increased to give support to the back of clamping washer.

Herewith drawing Ex.I.96, showing points raised.

R.{Sir Henry Royce} Hollingworth.
