(11) The Vibrometer must always be tuned until maximum vibration of reed is obtained. The reed may be approximately set for length according to the calibration curve, then tuned exactly according to the actual speed of the machine.
(12) The reeds should be lightly smeared with vaseline before putting away after use.

SCOPE OF THE VIBROMETER.

It primarily yields definite figures indicating amount of vibration, and hence allows of comparisons of the operation of a given machine under different conditions of loading, alignment, etc. It also allows of direct comparison of the vibrations of various machines at the same speed. It shows which end for instance of a turbo-generator is vibrating most or at which point along the whole plant there is the greatest disturbance.

In the case of trouble due to transmitted vibration to buildings by running machinery it is possible by careful tuning to detect which machine is responsible for the trouble.

It allows of comparison of different forms of foundations for turbo machinery, and of readily investigating vibration problems associated with turbo and other high-speed rotating plant.

THE K.B.B. VIBROMETER.

FIG. 1.

THE K.B.B. VIBROMETER provides a ready means for the detection and investigation of vibration, especially in connection with running machinery.

The frequency magnitude and direction of the vibration are indicated, so that information pointing to the cause of vibration is obtained, thus enabling the engineer to eliminate the trouble. Its application to turbines and turbine-driven plant will commend the instrument to engineers in charge of such plant, since the Vibrometer provides a means by which the commencement of vibration trouble is immediately detected.
