-3- With the engine standard in every way before modification to the connecting rods we obtained an oil consumption of 1.975 pints/hour at 4000 r.p.m. on a Bentley unit. With the rods modified the oil consumption was found to be 1.950 pints/hour, which is, as will be seen, for all practical purposes approximately the same. We have also, since carrying out the above tests on Bentley, applied this scheme to C.14 (20/25) unit, and also run comparative oil consumption tests with and without the scheme in operation. In this case the test was run at 3000 r.p.m. and the consumption figures were :- (1) Without the scheme (normal engine) - .500 pints/hour. (2) With the scheme applied - .525 pints/hour. Attached are sketches E.V. 29, 51 & 52 showing the modifications carried out during the experiments. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/R.{Sir Henry Royce} Matthews. | ||
