contd :- -4- The autovac will certainly be unsatisfactory for track work with a carburetter giving less induction pipe depression. The increased speed with the louvred bonnet we can only attribute to better carburation due to the petrol in the autovac and pipes being kept cooler. COMPARISON OF SPORTS AND STANDARD TOURING PHANTOM 10-EX & 46-PK. Maximum speed comparison. Chassis No. | Average speed m.p.h. | Lap | half-mile. ------------------------------------------ Cutout open 10-EX. | 86.54 | 89.11 46-PK. | 76.51 | 78.26 ------------------------------------------ Cutout closed. 10-EX. | 83.33 | 87.7 46-PK. | 73.24 | 75.31 Acceleration through gears. Chassis No. | C.O. open. | Standing | Standing | ¼ mile. | mile. ------------------------------------------ 10-EX | 51 | 62 46-PK. | 44.8 | 54.1 Top gear acceleration. A rolling start from 15 m.p.h. acceleration of the two cars equal to 50 m.p.h. at the half mile 10-EX 4 or 5 lengths ahead, at the mile about 150 yds. The much better acceleration of 10-EX through the gears is attributed partially to a more considerable clutch stop enabling quicker changes to be made. contd :- | ||
