EXPERIMENTAL CARD. No. 4001
Issued 2.12.12.
Subject Heading: Car lighting.
Work to be Carried Out: Fit 3 1/2" dynamo belts (whittle) & Fan belt testing rig (in Automatic shop). Use standard lengths & 3 different weights on levers. Run until fully stretched. Find out best load & size & how long belts should be run & take out all stretch. This is in order that we may instruct works as regards using rig for 1/2" belts which have to be used up to 2499. TBB.
Material Required: 6 1/2" Dynamo belts. Fan belt testing rig.
Origin of Experiment: Mr Royces instructions.

REPORT.
5 Dynamo belts booked out from stores 5/12/12.
The treatment we recommend for dynamo belts is, to soak them for several hours in engine oil and then put them on the rig with 24lb weights on the levers and run them for 48 hrs, this will stretch them about .875".
The stretching after this takes place slowly, but it continues to stretch until breaking, which happens after they have stretched 2.5" to 3".
We have had belts after running about 9.000 miles break on the road.
We are using belts on the experimental cars which have been run on the rig the above time & they are working satisfactory, but they have to be adjusted about every 400 to 500 miles to keep the amps up.
