HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG. 2nd. Feb. 1924. G.R.N. Minchin, Esq., 50, Grosvenor Gardens, London, S.W.1. Dear Minchin, I am very interested in your letter, for which many thanks. I have heard of the 'Type Boulogne Hispano' but have never had the opportunity of testing it. I appreciate the qualities of the Hispano brakes. They are, in my opinion the best 4-wheel brakes at present fitted to any car. Of course, there is a limit to all braking and that is - the grip of the tyre on the road. I was not very impressed with the brakes on Van Raaltes car which he very kindly called at the Works with. They are just what one would anticipate. If they are constantly adjusted and ample pressure is used, they will perform perfectly, but I believe that when they get into the hands of private owners, they will give very indifferent results. There is no reason why they should be any better than the Delage or similar cars with similar operation. We can believe the speed and acceleration of the 'Hispano' but I am surprised the engine is silent. I should also doubt whether it has any performance at low speed torque. The next time I come to London, I will endeavour to let you know early enough so that a trip may be arranged. Yours sincerely, | ||
