Dear Mr. Longley,

When I came over to see you with Mr. Grylls I believe you promised to examine for us the photomicrographs of the two types of liners we are going to try in aluminium brake drums.

The laboratory have now completed a report on one of these, the "Brico" liner in "Brimal" austenitic iron, and I enclose a copy of their report and also the photos. I shall be very interested to know what you think of this material.

We have no facilities here for measuring the co-efficient of expansion of these liners, and in view of your experience with a material alleged to have a high co-efficient, I am wondering if you would be so kind as to measure this for us if I sent you the liners. If you can do this for us, perhaps you would write or 'phone me on Monday when you return and I will send the liners straight away.

I have only one spare liner in N.M.C. steel (which is said to have an expansion co-efficient of 21 x 10^-6 per degree C.) so I will wait until I hear from you before I have it cut up for microstructure specimens.

I am not expecting to be able to send you the complete drums, etc., for two or three weeks.
