Dear Dick,

Many thanks for your letter of October 3rd.
You will appreciate that an advance of the ignition only applies to part throttle work.

I am sorry that you did not have better luck with the Avons. I suggest that you have another set to get an average figure.

As you surmise, motor car work stopped with the outbreak of hostilities. However, we are finding plenty to do making aircraft engines.

Please look us up if your petrol ration brings you this way.
