Experimental Dept. 126 3 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/JBD.{John B. Dixon - Fuel Systems}8/JH. 25th June, 1937. The S.U. Company Ltd., Bordesley Green Road, Adderley Park, Birmingham.8. For the attention of Mr. Skinner. Dear Sirs, We have received 12 high pressure pumps out of the order for 24 outstanding since last October. They have however been supplied without the air bottles which were ordered and shown on the drawing of the pump. We should be glad to receive the missing bottles and expect to find them on the remainder of this order. On examination of these pumps we find velumoid washers .010" thick have been supplied where Prespan is specified on your drawings and that the thickness has been doubled. As we have not any experience of velumoid in these pumps we should be obliged if you will supply these with .010" prespan washers, 4 to 3 holes back setting which give a minimum working voltage of 6 volts. With regard to the present production of our ordinary pump and pumps which are being modified when returned from Depots, these are now being produced to a .003" limit on the eccentricity of the pole piece. We do not consider this a fine enough limit. We understand however that in the course of a week or so when the supply of specially turned brass washers is available the pole piece will be held to a limit of .002 - .003" and we would like you to mark these pumps G.S.S.C. in order to check what benefit this operation gives. Pumps which are being modified and held to the same limits with use of the cutter should be similarly marked. We should be obliged to have your comparmation to the above requests. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS ROYCE LTD | ||
