Notes of Conference Between Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} and H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} on (a) Present Worst Features & (b) Complaints resulting in heavy F.O.C. Costs on 25 h.p. Car.

In view of C's wish to send Br and H to discuss the above with W's Officials shortly, Br and H went through the last quarterly return of complaints and other records with a view to deciding which jobs require the most pressing attention by W's Design and Production Departments.

It was agreed at this Conference to place the matters requiring the most urgent attention in the following order of urgency:-

(1) Seizure of Brakes.
(2) Engine Gear Rattles.
(3) Slipping Clutches.
(4) Servo troubles and Brake inefficiency.
(5) Sticking Air Valves.
(6) Popping in Exhaust.

Seized Rear Brakes.

During the discussion there was doubt as to whether seized rear brakes or engine gear rattles should be put in the primary position and it is C&S desire that Brakes should have this honour, because this trouble results in customers being actually held up on the road.

The brake seizures frequently arise on new cars, often on the first long run when the clearances (now 1") are known to be correct having been closely examined on final test. There were 41 cases in the quarter ending June 30th and 12 recent seizures have been dealt with by W. in many cases as outside rescue jobs.

It is believed that W. is considering the adoption of steel brake shoes in place of aluminium shoes, and in this connection a copy of Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}'s memo to C. Worll/M13.4.33. is attached. Information is required as to when the introduction of the steel shoes can be made for production and whether they can be applied retrospectively; the matter being considered an extremely urgent one in view of the annoyance to customers and the cost to the Company.
