To Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} For Depot Sheet. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}1/MJ.30.5.31. X.7360. Phantom II Brake Adjustment No.2 Series onwards and all left-hand cars. The brakes hand, foot, and front on No.2 Series cars and onwards also on all left-hand Phantom II cars, are fitted with .375" thick friction linings. The object of this thicker lining is to double the life of the brakes before re-lining becomes necessary. The chauffeur's adjustment is not altered in any way from previous chassis. The procedure to be adopted when all the chauffeur's adjustment has been used up is to remove the brake drums, reset the chauffeur's adjustment back to its 'new car position' and let out the brake shoe toggles until the initial new car setting of the brakes is obtained. (The toggle link and fork are looked together by a lock nut only, the peg having been deleted). There will then be sufficient lining available to use up the chauffeur's adjustment again. It must be noted that it is only possible to adjust the toggles out once in this manner; when the chauffeur's adjustment has been used up the second time it is necessary to reline the brakes.
