1000 Watt Dynamo voltage regulating motor.

Dear Sirs,

With further reference to our letter of the 25th. ult. reference Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.2/AD., regarding engine tests of the Mark VII 1000 Watt dynamo running in conjunction with the Mark II voltage regulating motor we are arranging to return to you under separate cover the latter unit.

This regulating motor has given trouble to such an extent that we have had to cut it out and use a hand adjusted variable field resistance in series with the dynamo field winding in order to complete our dynamo drive tests on a Kestrel engine.

The troubles, as previously mentioned, appear to be due to bad commutator brush contact on the motor reducing the armature current and speed. In one test the motor stopped completely and could be restarted by cleaning the commutator and adjusting the brush spring pressure.

We should be glad if you could let us have another regulating motor or have the existing one made O.K.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS ROYCE LIMITED
