To DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL. c. to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Whr.{Mr Wheeler} ORIGINAL Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL.2/MJ. 24.7.30. X7380 PHANTOM II SUBFRAME, REAR SUPPORT BRACKET. With reference to DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}2/M22.7.30., the first breakage of this bracket that was heard of was on the Propaganda Car 12-GJ. We reported on this, adding that although there was a doubt as to the cause of breakage (it might have been due to the brake drum fouling the body immediately above the bracket), we were of the opinion that the bracket should be strengthened up. (See Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL.3/AD.3.7.30). Soon after this, (14.7.30) we received a report from G.W.H. at Chateauroux to the effect that the near side bracket on 24-SK. had failed. We immediately asked BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} to give us a strengthened design and instruct for production immediately. This has been done and the new brackets will be available for production in three weeks. Attached is a print showing the new strengthened bracket. We have had no other case of this bracket breaking either in France or on the 'jellying' rig. The broken brackets on FN.'s car are so much mutilated by the welding repairs etc. that it is not possible to determine exactly where the breakage occurred. As near as we can judge it was thus - P.T.O. | ||
