re 34-EX.

Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}5/E16.1.36

The above is the car which, as you know, we used for some time for trials and which then went to Park Ward to have rubber inserted between the body and the frame.

Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} tried it and reported as per Cx{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}4/KW.10.1.36.

The car was sent to Derby the same day.

I had been hoping to hear the views of yourself and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} as the result of the modifications having been made.

I asked Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} to make sure that he was not asking at this juncture for something better than P.II. What I had in mind was that, when one gets on the trail of a particular noise such as tyre noises, one is apt to become hyper-critical.

I, therefore, asked him to try a P.II with a similar type of body. He was able to get hold of our recent Trials car, No.21-RY, and I am sorry to say reports that he has no hesitation in saying that there was nothing like the same amount of tyre noise that we are suffering from on P.III. He says that in that respect 21-RY was definitely quieter than 34-EX and the outstanding noises in the latter car at 12,18 and 25 mph were in his opinion entirely absent in 21-RY.

This certainly is as disappointing as I was hoping that we could get along to start with by the fairly simple introduction of rubber between the body and the frame and without having to wait for extensive testing of the rubber insertions between other points which I understand have been made on 33-EX.

As intimated, however, in the first paragraph, I am anxiously awaiting W's report.
