La{L. A. Archer} Salle Steering for Ph.III.

(1) Raising of steering box by 1" is possible. More than this is inadvisable, as certain clearances would be unduly small.

(2) This would allow an 8" pendulum lever to be used, giving an overall ratio of 17.45 (as against 15.5 with 9" lever).

(3) If the ground clearance is reduced by 1/4", i.e., by using an 8 1/4" pendulum lever with the box raised 1", the overall ratio is 18.

(4) Since raising the steering box in an existing car means stripping it almost entirely, it was thought that shortening the side steering tube end of the bell crank might be a more simple solution. This is unfortunately impossible as the side steering tube would then foul an oil pipe, and a filter. It remains for the Designers to decide which they prefer to do: raise the box or alter the filter and bell crank.

(5) It looks as though we ought to instruct an 8" pendulum lever for fitting to 30-EX with the La{L. A. Archer} Salle box.
