Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr.C.S. Steadman. We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated July 3rd. The price of 3/6d which the writer mentioned to Mr. Steadman for Thermostats to Drawing No. BGA.2073A, and 5/6d which we quoted you for Thermostats, BGA.3357A, were given on the assumption that such thermostats if required by you would be our absolutely standard production. Thermostat, BGA.3357A, for which we quoted you 5/6d was our standard production. The thermostat for which we quoted you in our letter of July 2nd was not our standard production at all, and had a modified valve seat, a ball valve soldered on, and nickel plated finish. If it appears strange that these apparently trivial modifications represent an increase of 3/- in the price of the instrument, we should like you to remember that as soon as a departure is made from standard it is no longer possible to employ the personnel and equipment used for standard production. We feel sure that you will agree that these statements are reasonable, and that the price of 6/6d which we quoted you for the modified thermostat, Handwritten Initials: WMH/GDD | ||
