The question of maintaining batteries, as you no doubt realise, once they have been in service and laid up, is a difficult one, and the most satisfactory method of maintaining batteries in good condition during this idle period is by periodical refreshing charges; as in most cases this method is difficult to adopt in the present circumstances the alternative method detailed hereafter is recommended.

It should be noted that only batteries which are in sound condition are suitable for storage over an extended idle period, and no responsibility can be accepted for the condition of the plates when again put in use.

(1) Thoroughly recharge the battery from a separate source of supply.

(2) Empty out the acid and wash out the cells with distilled water.

(3) Refill the cells with distilled water, making sure that the plates are covered. Screw home the vents and wipe the battery dry.

(4) Store in a cool dry dust free place. On no account must the battery be left in a place where there is
