TELEPHONE: LEYLAND 81400 (16 LINES) LEYLAND, LANCASHIRE. 21st June, 1939. Dict. 20th. W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., D E R B Y. Dear Robotham, Sorry I have been so long in replying to your letter dated the 1st June, in which you gave me some information in regard to the raised crown piston which you have adopted as a means of getting increased compression ratio without increase of detonation. We have not yet received the sample set of pistons from Wellworthy, but as soon as these come to hand we will place an engine on test and advise you of the results. In any case, I agree with you that this method of tackling the job appears to have distinct possibilities. Many thanks also for the valuable information which you conveyed to our representative when he visited you for the purpose of discussion of the nitriding process. I have had a word with Mr. Spurrier about a prospective visit to Rolls-Royce, and as soon as we are able to spare some time, we will certainly take an opportunity of coming down to have a further talk with you on general development. With regard to the costs of the dry liner which you ask for, I understood that these had already been conveyed to you, but as I find you have not had this information, I am having this looked up and will let you have it in the course of a day or so. Yours sincerely, Millington | ||
