Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager}13/MH.{M. Huckerby} 28th. July, 1939. Messrs. R.K.Dundas Ltd., The Airport, PORTSMOUTH. Dear Sirs, In reply to your letter of the 21st. inst. reference RDK/PJF., you state in your second paragraph that your process consists of spraying a coat of aluminium on mild steel. Is this the same system or principle know as "Aluminizing", because we have been treating with success our Bentley production cars with the "Aluminizing" process for the last 2 years, on the manifold downtake pipe and the front 2 expansion boxes. The objection we have to it is the fact that the whole assembly has to be treated after welding, which seems to be the case with your process. If your process is similar to "Aluminizing", we know all about it, but if it is something different, of course, we are still interested. Our downtake pipe and front expansion box temperatures are in the region of 700°C -800°C and these parts are lagged with asbestos and metal protecting covers. The writer will be away on holiday for the next 3 weeks but will get in touch with you again on his return. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
