London, S.W.15.

13th. October 1937.

Dear Sirs,

Your Mr. Shelton called on us several weeks ago and took the "Satco" lined bearings which had failed on test along with a Z.3 lined bearing and one of our standard bearings, all of these having run in the same engine.

We should like to hear your opinion regarding these bearings, after which you will no doubt be returning them to us, as they are important for our museum.

Some time ago, I recall you mentioning that one of your alloys (whitemetal) was particularly good for adhesion in the case of an outside diameter bearing, but not so good for an inside diameter bearing.

If I am not mistaken in this respect I would like to hear about this particular metal, and how much better it is for outside diameter adhesion than the normal Z.3 or our own whitemetal.

If I remember correctly it was one of your "Eleven" alloys, either H or D, and as we are particularly interested in the case of an outside diameter bearing would be obliged if you could give us an early reply.

Yours faithfully,

for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
