ORIGINAL. [stamp] RECEIVED [stamp] 25 NOV 1920 [stamp] PS/023/11/20. (8) X.4219 RE SMALL R.R. CHASSIS. X.4244. We have made certain slight modifications to the specification we sent you on the 17th inst (S4/G17/11/20) namely, we think the clutch will be built as a single plate clutch, principally owing to the three speed gear box carried by the end of the engine. X.424Y There was also a slight error in the specification referring to the gear box; it should have said, "but modified so as to be suitable for attachment to the engine instead of the torque tube". X.4246 Another point in the specification which we expect to depart from is the fabric disc couplings. These will probably be tried, but we shall also supply an alternative of the usual cross pin universal on the back axle, and a sliding pot universal on the back of the gear box. The reason for this is that there is a certain amount of pumping on the propeller rod, and we fear that the fabric joints will not stand this, and in any case we think that we may find that they are not sufficiently lasting and reliable to justify their adoption.
