CONTINENTAL P.III.

We have now made all the parts of the proposed Continental P.III with the exception of the flexible flywheel which was always a doubtful starter.

The engine unit has been running for several weeks, the chassis we have not been able to test owing to Barkers being about six weeks late with the body, and simultaneously requiring the frame for mounting.

The attached table is the result of weighing the parts manufactured and comparing them with the standard article. It is obvious that some of the parts such as the four port head and Spicer Propeller Shaft will come on production quite independently of this chassis.

It will be observed that the net saving in weight achieved is 87 lbs more than the figure given in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Hml/KW.29.5.36. We have admittedly guessed at some of the potential cost savings but endeavoured to be conservative; the figures at least show that it will cost no more to reduce the chassis weight.

The chassis being completely untried, this report is somewhat premature, but serves to show that the project is not being held up by the experimental department.

It is too much to expect that it will not be found necessary to replace some of the weight removed. We shall, however, be disappointed if the final figure does not exceed 4 cwts. saved.
