X8685 To BY/Shn. from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rml/LG3.1.25. OIL RELAY GOVERNOR IGNITION. We have now tested the springs which are giving us satisfactory results on the governor.for actual rating. We find that the load to deflect the spring through 78° is 1.602 lbs. which corresponds very closely with the theoretical rating of the springs which you gave us. Attached is a copy of the figures we gave you yesterday for the pull at the end of the governor lever. It will be observed that the mean value for this pull is very nearly double the spring rating, plus half the static weight, which is what we expect. This is due to both ends of the springs being used to promote torque on the governor weight carriers i.e., reaction of the spring is usefully employed.
