9th. September 1938.

For the attention of Mr.G.Taylor.

Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of Sept. 5th. With reference to our AC.9 Alloy bearing material, we note that you have been in communication with Messrs.Wellworthy, and as you probably know, they are handling this material commercially.

Regarding your proposed trial of this material in your racing engines, we suggest the following procedure.

If you are willing to supply certain detail drawings and data, we will design a bearing for you based on our past experience with the material, and which we consider most suitable for your requirements.

We would like drawings, therefore, of the following parts:-

Detail drawings of the crankshaft and connecting rod, the bearing you are at present using, and if possible, the assembly of the bearing and crank, in the crankcase.

Further, we would like as much information about the lubrication system as possible, with special reference to temperature, pressure and size of delivery passages.

In reply to your query about a similar engine using AC.9 bearings; E.R.A's have had considerable success.

Yours faithfully,

for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
