WORKS TELEPHONE LYMINGTON 520 WORKS TELEGRAMS "WELLWORTHY" PRIVATE TELEPHONE LYMINGTON 232 MANAGING DIRECTOR'S OFFICE 1/110 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} WELLWORTHY PISTON RINGS LTD., LYMINGTON HANTS JH/KES 24th November, 1938. A.{Mr Adams} G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Elliott, Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Have you seen this? R Dear Mr. Elliott, I wonder whether you have had anything to do with this, what they call Bi-metal Friction material which has been developed in America. It is being used for friction clutches of all descriptions and can, of course, be coated on to the steel without rivets, that is, be welded on. [Handwritten note in margin: Why not welded on to brake shoes etc direct?] I have had this offered me through a friend for whom I have been working a licence for Simplex for the last ten or fifteen years, and he has recommended the manufacturer of this material in the States to offer me a licence here. We are considering taking this up, but I thought that possibly you might be interested in it in case you have not seen anything about it, and if you like, I will send you along a piece for you to see, or we could possibly get you some welded on to any clutch or brake surfaces for trial. [Handwritten note below paragraph: — Catalogue does not show it applied in this manner.] If it is of no use to you, you might ask Mr. Robotham whether it would be of use to him. It certainly might be a way out of the squeaky brakes which I am cursed with on my Bentley! Yours sincerely, [Signature] P.S. Kindly return the enclosed when you have finished with it. | ||
