Continuation of letter to :- W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham, Esq. Page 4. 18/1/39. The equipment we have at High Duty Alloys Ltd. is not adapted for mass production of pressings of pistons, and Mr. Devereux is looking into the installation of special presses which will enable us to sell these pistons in aircraft material, but at competitive prices. We wonder if it will be possible from your experience to say which of the two types of pistons you think will eventually survive and become standardised; we would suggest making the dies for this first, to save expense. With regard to the light alloy body framework for Park Ward, Mr. Ward says their sample body is ready and will be delivered to us any day now. On brake drums, experiments are in hand still on the adhesion problem, and several different alloys are being tested, and different combinations of temperature in the iron and aluminium in the casting process, and various methods of bonding. If there is anything you would care to discuss about these rods and pistons, I should be very pleased to come up and see you next week, but we have not much progress to report on any of the other jobs which we are doing for you. Yours sincerely, P.S.Tresilian SST/JP. Enc. | ||
