Continental Phantom III.

The following are suggested modifications which we might in a reasonably short space of time incorporate on the Ph.III in order to make it more suitable for Continental conditions.

Engine Unit.

(1) 6.5 : 1 compression ratio.
(2) Longest duration camshaft that will permit of good slow running.
(3) Largest permissible inlet valves.
(4) Cylinder head with turbulent lips removed.
(5) Ignition governor to suit (4).
(6) Carburetters modified to suit increased power output.
(7) Lightest permissible flywheel having regard to periods.

Chassis.

(1) Optimum rate of rear road springs for best rear axle control.
(2) Light alloy drums to reduce weight.
(3) Any weight saving possible by the use of light alloys on the front suspension.
(4) De-restriction of exhaust system as far as compatible with silence requirements and simultaneously lightening it. The present system absorbs 30 B.H.P. at 90 M.P.H.
