Dear Mr. Bentley,

3 PHASE MOTOR BRUSH.
SLIP RING TYPE.

Naturally you must use brushes that can be obtained easily, providing they have given satisfactory in long use. It is possible that the brush used in the way you shew may not gradually turn over if the brush holder is the best possible - i.e. longest guide, and near the slip ring.

I suggested that the flex: might be at the side -

I very much want to see if we can make a really good substantial spring which will do most of your brush-holder work.

The end treated this way not so liable to break, as this:

Split tube made from sheet steel with rounded edges.

The steel is as wide as possible, preferably with rounded edges, then as thick and long as possible, i.e. we want to get ample steel in the spring.

Yours faithfully,
W. F.{Mr Friese} H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Royce
R.{Sir Henry Royce} L. Marmont
