especially in the case of tungsten. It has been difficult to obtain suitable springs of our present design. It is considered that the statics of the lever should be such that in the average position there is no resultant thrust at the pivot, i.e. the action of the spring should balance the action between the cam and rubbing block, so that the lever is in equilibrium (unstable) in the absence of the pivot.

Periodic reversal of current has been proved to be helpful, but hardly practicable to apply. Reversal of direction of running contact breaker might give us some information and will be tried in due course.
