VISCOUNT NUFFIELD CHAIRMAN OLIVER BODEN, O.B.E. VICE-CHAIRMAN T.C.SKINNER, M.I.A.E. MANAGING DIRECTOR YOUR REF ROY{Sir Henry Royce}/FS.{F. Steele}2/P. OUR REF BC/HJ. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. 28th March/1939. For the attention of Mr. Dixon. Dear Sirs, We have received an order for 350 Petrol Pump Assemblies but unfortunately before we can commence on this job there are three or four rather important queries. We presume that this pump is based on that type of pump of which you had six samples a few days ago and which we make up to our Specie PR19/L. On this specification we have been using our standard make-and-break gear and not the Rolls Royce type make-and-break gear which uses a different bakelite moulding and also a shock blade at the back of the spring blade carrying the two contact points; will you please inform us which of these you require on this new order. Also on this order you call for screwed plugs DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}2114; we presume that these plugs are to screw into the body in place of the unions simply for despatch, and later when you receive the pumps at Derby you will put your own unions in place. Unfortunately the thread of this union is 5/20 thread which is non-standard for us in this particular pump body casting, which is screwed here 3/8" gas. Will you kindly inform us which thread is required here? (Contd- [Handwritten notes] Top center: 1263. Middle left: Not org.
