C O P Y. To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} RE. CHASSIS GCK-54. We tried this car on its arrival and there was very little symptom of a galloping knock. We pointed out that there was a gear rattle which becomes worse as the car is run (i.e. engine and oil getting hot). The slipper wheel, when taken off, slipped at a load of 5 lbs. actual slipping at 3 lbs. We dismantled this and fitted cotton duck washers with the latest type of 20 HP. springs setting the slipper load at a definite 7 lbs. The spring drive was dismantled and examined for freedom. This we found to be O.K. We have since tried the car on the road and cannot detect any sign of the galloping knock. There is a bad dynamo drive rattle which we have pointed out to Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/G.W.Hancock. | ||
