Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}3/BW/24924 24th September, 1924. E.S. Prather, Esq: 42, Emmastraat, The Hague, Holland. Dear Sir, Re: Chassis No. 59.LM. Referring to your letter of the 11th instant, we regret not having replied earlier, but this has been due to our waiting to hear from our Works in regard to this matter. They have noted with interest the comments in your letter and the booklet from the Caspar Oil Company. Their opinion, however, is not modified by the information conveyed in the booklet as their experience with Castrol, which they know cannot differ materially from Caspar, puts beyond all doubt the fact that Castor Oil added to any other type of oil as a lubricant, does result in 'gumming' up in the first instance of the rings - and in the latter stages in the absolute cementing of the rings into the grooves. Our Works would have been pleased to avail themselves of your offer to test the oil of this type which you offered to send, but at the moment, they are actually involved in testing out about five different types of oil, and the amount of work which this is throwing on the Experimental Department is such as to prohibit any further addition to the series. Assuring you at all times of our best attention, We remain, Yours faithfully, for Rolls-Royce, Limited, EXPORT MANAGER. | ||
