SWAN NECK CONNECTION ON REAR SILENCER - E.18063/4 E.18065.

Considerable difficulty is being experienced in the production of the Swan Neck Connection. This is the steel casting which we failed to obtain even approximately to drawing thickness and a considerable amount of awkward machining is necessitated. This part cannot be made of a stamping owing to its general form. It is suggested that the design be altered on the following lines:-

The pipe to be brazed directly into an internally machined stamping having an oblique flange, the flange being bolted or studded to another flange sitting directly on the silencer body, this latter flange being rivetted to the silencer.

Will you please prepare schemes on these lines which I will discuss with you for submission to Mr. Royce.
